Mohoreč Inn
BackThe Mohoreč Inn in Kubed, which is now permanently closed, was one of those restaurants that left a strong, but often divided, impression on its guests. A look at its history and visitors' experiences reveals a story of a place with great potential, a wonderful ambiance, but also some serious shortcomings that marked its path. Although the doors of the inn remain closed, the memories and reviews of former customers paint a complex picture that is worth taking a closer look at.
Idyllic ambiance and first compliments
One of the most frequently mentioned features of the Mohoreč Inn was undoubtedly its ambiance. It was located in the embrace of nature, which allowed guests to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Visitors praised the spacious and free parking in the courtyard, which created a feeling of welcome upon arrival. The interior was furnished in the style of old, traditional Istrian inns, where the warmth and homeliness were emphasized by the fireplace. This rustic charm, intertwined with elements of Slovenian wine history, created a unique and pleasant atmosphere. Some visitors were delighted with the beautiful garden, which offered a peaceful environment for dining, and the tables decorated with fresh roses added the finishing touch to the entire culinary experience .
The service was also praised at some point. The staff was described as smiling and friendly, which, together with the warmth of the fireplace, created an unforgettable experience. The waiter Boško, who was described as top-notch, and the chef Željko, who the guests believed prepared each plate with love, were particularly highlighted. This positive side of the story shows that the local inn had all the ingredients for success: location, ambiance and, at least in certain moments, dedicated staff.
Culinary offer: Between excitement and disappointment
When it comes to food, opinions about the Mohoreč Inn are divided. On one side, there are reviews full of praise for the delicious food . The cuisine was described as interesting, the presentation of the dishes excellent, and the portions large and filling. Visitors enjoyed local and Šavrin delicacies, such as prosciutto, gnocchi, fuži, truffles and various meat dishes and seafood , which testified to the commitment to Istrian cuisine . Homemade apple juice and quality wine accompaniment only rounded off the positive experience, where the price-quality ratio was, according to some, completely appropriate.
The dark side of plates and serving
On the other hand, there are experiences that were diametrically opposed. One guest described his experience as "below average", despite the nice ambiance and friendly service. The main complaint was about the modest portion of Adriatic squid, which, in his opinion, would not even satisfy a child. Moreover, the disappointment was caused by the fact that the bill charged for items that should have been free, such as a greeting from the kitchen and a side dish. The bread served was supposedly a day old. Such experiences left visitors with a bitter taste and a feeling that savings were being made on basic things at the expense of the guest.
The most critical assessment, however, concerns the hospitality, or lack thereof. A group of eleven hikers had one of the worst possible experiences when they were turned away by the owner and waiter, even though they only wanted to have a drink and a dessert. The excuse that they had run out of desserts and glasses seemed unbelievable, as the inn was half empty. The group got the feeling that they were unwelcome because they were local hikers and not tourists with Italian license plates. This incident, where they were even denied a drink, indicates a serious problem in the attitude towards certain guests and casts a dark shadow on the otherwise praised hospitality.
Change of ownership as a possible turnaround
These extreme experiences appear to have occurred at different times during the restaurant's operation. The key piece of information that sheds light on this discrepancy is the mention of a new owner. The positive reviews praising chef Željko and waiter Boško are more recent and explicitly mention a "new experience" under new management. This suggests that many of the problems, such as small portions and poor service, may have been typical of the previous owners. Under new management, the restaurant was said to have undergone a resurgence, focusing on quality local ingredients and improving on good service . Unfortunately, even this positive momentum does not seem to have lasted long enough to ensure long-term success.
The legacy of the Mohoreč Inn
Today, the Mohoreč Inn is just a memory. Its story is a reminder that in hospitality, it is the whole that counts – from the ambiance and location to the quality of the food and, most importantly, the attitude towards each guest. It was a place of extremes: some found it an idyllic corner with excellent food, while others left disappointed and even offended. Although it is permanently closed, it remains an example of how the same restaurant can create such different memories. For those who experienced good times there, its closed entrance represents the loss of a cozy corner in Slovenian Istria, but for others it may just be confirmation that they were right.
