For many years, the Muršič Inn operated at Dornavska cesta 5 in Ptuj, but has now permanently closed its doors. This location was not just another restaurant in the city; it was an important gathering spot that combined two seemingly different activities under one roof: a classic Slovenian inn and a modern bowling alley. It was this combination that gave the establishment its special charm and attracted a wide range of guests, from workers on their lunch break to families and groups of friends looking for fun with good food.

Although the inn has ceased operations, the memories and opinions of former guests remain, painting a complex picture of what the Muršič Inn really was. According to the owner of the building, Siringa, the tenant who operated the restaurant section decided to close the business himself, dispelling rumors that the entire complex was being sold. This decision leaves a void in the local restaurant scene that will be difficult to fill.

What impressed the guests?

Most of the experiences shared by former visitors paint a picture of a place that was based on the traditional values of a Slovenian inn: plentiful, tasty food, fast service and affordable prices. Many fondly recall the daily snacks and lunch offerings, which were clearly one of the foundations of their business. They particularly highlight the generosity of the portions; one guest states how he received a double portion when ordering a Viennese steak, and the entire lunch with soup cost him only five euros. This shows a focus on providing high value for money, which is always appreciated.

In addition, the service itself was often praised. The staff was described in most cases as friendly, fast and efficient, even during the busiest times. Guests appreciated the small touches, such as the soup being served in a soup bowl, from which everyone could help themselves as they wished. This created a feeling of homeliness and hospitality. Among the dishes that were particularly memorable to visitors were the excellent grilled squid, which shows that their menu was not limited to meat dishes. They were also proud of their specialties, such as the beef goulash "Ptujski lük" and the dessert Sladka vinska kraljica.

A unique combination of food and entertainment

The key advantage and specialty of the Muršič Inn was undoubtedly the bowling alley. This allowed the establishment to be not just a place for lunch or dinner , but a comprehensive center for socializing and entertainment. Families, groups of friends and companies could organize celebrations, anniversaries or simply spend an active evening here, which they ended with good food . The capacity of the interior spaces allowed for the reception of up to 100 guests, which was ideal for larger closed groups. This synergy between gastronomy and recreation was their greatest competitive advantage and the reason why many returned regularly. The large parking lot also contributed to the practicality, which made access easier for guests.

Their loyalty program served as further evidence of their focus on customer satisfaction. One guest mentioned a system of collecting snack stickers, where every sixth snack was free. Such gestures, although small, build long-term relationships with guests and make them feel valued.

Where were the shortcomings?

However, the picture was not entirely flawless. Among the reviews, one can also find extremely negative experiences that point to another, less pleasant side of the restaurant's operations. The most prominent criticism is related to the inconsistent quality of service. While most praise the friendliness of the staff, one customer shared an experience with an extremely unfriendly older waitress, whose behavior was so abrupt and unacceptable that she and her partner left the restaurant before they could even order anything. Such cases, although perhaps isolated, cast a shadow on an otherwise good reputation and show that the guest experience was not always equally positive.
