Sila Inn
BackThe Sila Inn, located at Lokev 7a in the immediate vicinity of Sežana, is a classic inn that attempts to combine the tradition of Karst cuisine with the demands of the modern guest. With its offer, which includes both midday snacks and a la carte dishes, it targets a wide range of visitors, from locals to tourists exploring the Karst. The space is suitable for both a quick lunch and larger private parties, as it can accommodate up to 160 guests. Nevertheless, the opinions and experiences of guests are quite divided, which indicates fluctuations in quality, especially in service and partly also in food preparation.
Culinary offer: between praise and criticism
The menu at Gostilna Sila offers a diverse selection based on recognizable dishes. Some specialties are often praised by guests, which testify to the potential of the cuisine. Gnocchi with Teran and prosciutto stand out in particular, as they are an excellent example of how local ingredients can be combined into a delicious whole. Seafood dishes , such as grilled squid and delicious grouper fillet, also received positive reviews. Those who swear by meat dishes praised the mixed grilled meat, which shows that they have mastered the basics of meat preparation. According to many visitors, the portions are generous, which is definitely a plus for anyone who appreciates hearty meals.
In addition to classic dishes, the restaurant also tries to accommodate guests with special dietary needs. They have a gluten-free offer , specifically gluten-free gnocchi, which is certainly commendable. However, some guests believe that the offer could be expanded, for example with gluten-free bread, which would improve the experience even more. As for desserts, they mention Prekmurje gibanica and a refreshing panna cotta with forest fruits, which shows that they are not limited to Karst desserts.
However, the picture is not complete. Some guests had less positive experiences. One criticism was that the food was too salty, which can ruin even a well-thought-out dish. It was also pointed out that the popular tartar sauce with fried squid had to be specially requested, which suggests less attention to detail. These fluctuations in the quality of food preparation create mixed feelings and indicate that the experience can depend on the day of visit.
Service: Friendly with occasional lapses
Service is a key element of any dining experience, and opinions about it are divided at Gostilna Sila. Several guests praised the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, which contributes to a pleasant atmosphere. However, there are also completely opposite experiences. Some visitors reported service without a smile and a cold attitude, which left a bitter aftertaste. The most problematic experience seems to be the experience of a guest who waited almost 40 minutes to place an order until another, local guest intervened. Such incidents indicate possible organizational shortcomings, especially during busy times.
These differences in experience suggest that the level of service is inconsistent. While some experience genuine hospitality, others face disinterest, which is a great shame for a place that has the potential to be much more. Good food can hardly outweigh poor service.
Ambience and practical information
The Sila Inn offers a pleasant interior ambience, complemented by soft background music, creating a relaxed atmosphere for dining. In the warmer months, guests can also enjoy a spacious terrace with more than 60 seats, ideal for enjoying the Karst air. Access is also arranged for the disabled, which is an important advantage.
However, there are some practical challenges. One of them is parking, as the inn does not have its own parking lot, so guests are forced to park on the street. This can be quite inconvenient during busy times. Another peculiarity highlighted by one of the guests was the €1.50 surcharge for cutlery, which is a rather unusual practice that may surprise many when checking the bill. Although the prices are rated as moderate (price class 2), such unexpected costs can affect the final assessment of value for money.
Offer and opening hours
The restaurant is open most days of the week, but with a somewhat unusual schedule, focusing mainly on lunch time.
- Monday - Friday: 10:00 - 14:30
- Saturday - Sunday: 12:00 - 16:30
In addition to the regular menu, they also offer snacks and food delivery during the weekday mornings. Due to its popularity, especially during weekends, advance reservations are recommended. The location of the inn is strategic, as it is located opposite the famous Pršutarna Lokev, which allows visitors to combine a culinary experience with visiting local attractions and buying Karst prosciutto.
Final assessment: opportunity for improvement
Gostilna Sila is a place with two faces. On the one hand, it offers delicious and hearty home-cooked food with an emphasis on Karst specialties and a solid selection for different tastes, including gluten-free options. On the other hand, it faces obvious fluctuations in the quality of service and occasional shortcomings in the kitchen. The potential is undoubtedly there, as praise for dishes such as gnocchi and fish is proof of knowledge and quality ingredients. If they could provide more consistent and friendly service and eliminate minor shortcomings such as parking problems and unclear additional costs, it could become one of the leading catering points in this area of the Karst. For now, however, it remains a choice where the final satisfaction depends on the luck and patience of the guest.
