Pope’s Square
BackPiazza del Papa, located at Jurčkova Cesta 223 in Ljubljana, within the Supernova Rudnik shopping center, presents itself as a pizzeria and spaghetti restaurant that strives to offer authentic Italian culinary delights. With a modern and neat ambiance, it invites guests for lunch or dinner . However, the experiences of visitors are very different and show two sides of this restaurant in Ljubljana .
Culinary Offering: Between Great Pizzas and Average Portions
The heart of the offer at Piazza del Papa is undoubtedly Italian food , with an emphasis on pizzas. The menu includes more than 30 different types of pizza, from classic to meat, seafood and vegetable, which means that everyone can find something to their taste. Many guests, even those who have had negative experiences, praise the pizzas as very tasty. For example, the "Stara Gozdarska" and "Ortolana" pizzas are mentioned, which left a good impression. Positive reviews highlight that the dough is baked just right, and the toppings are in sufficient quantities, which confirms that delicious pizza is the hallmark of the establishment. Prices are described as moderate, most pizzas range between 9 and 11 euros, which is competitive for Ljubljana conditions.
In addition to pizzas, they also offer other dishes. The menu includes lasagna, pasta, risotto and salads, which shows the breadth of the offer. However, opinions are not so unanimous here. One of the criticisms concerns the portion sizes of the main courses. Specifically, the "Chef's steak with mlinci" was described as disappointingly small, as it supposedly contained only about 100 grams of meat and a few pieces of mlinci in an abundance of cream. Such an experience can leave the guest with the feeling that the price-quality ratio is not appropriate, which casts a shadow on the otherwise positive assessment of the pizzas.
Ambiance and Services: Comfort with Limitations
The restaurant's ambiance is described as modern, neat and well-maintained. As part of a shopping mall, the location is practical for visitors who want to combine a meal with shopping. For families, it is important to note that the restaurant offers highchairs for small children, making it a more family-friendly restaurant . Wheelchair access is also provided. Guests are also offered delivery and personal pickup options, which increases flexibility.
However, the location in a shopping mall also brings certain disadvantages, such as a potentially noisier ambiance, which may not suit everyone looking for a quiet pub for a relaxed dinner.
Service: The Biggest Stumbling Block
The most critical point, highlighted by a large number of guests, is the quality of service. Opinions are sharply divided here. While some praise the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, there are numerous and very specific complaints, which focus mainly on one young, curly-haired waiter. He is described as bored, rude, uncouth and cynical. Several guests report arrogant behavior, eye rolling and long waiting times, even when the place is almost empty. Such a guest experience is unacceptable and greatly damages the reputation of the entire place.
This unprofessionalism is not only reflected in behavior, but also in a lack of knowledge and responsibility, which is especially problematic for guests with allergies.
Inadequate Allergen Labeling: A Serious Risk
One of the most concerning criticisms concerns the management of allergens. The menu does not list allergens, which is a major drawback in this day and age. Worse, the staff is clearly not properly trained to provide correct information. In one of the cases described, a guest, the mother of a child with an egg and milk allergy, received a mocking and misleading answer from the waiter regarding the ingredients in the dish. Despite her inquiries, the dish was served with butter, which could cause serious health problems. This shows a serious deficiency in the system and irresponsibility that is unacceptable for a catering establishment. Anyone with any dietary restrictions or allergies is advised against visiting this restaurant until they have sorted out the labeling and training of the staff.
Two Faces Restaurant
Piazza del Papa is a place that leaves mixed feelings. On the one hand, it offers really tasty pizzas at reasonable prices in a pleasant and modern environment, which is also suitable for families. On the other hand, the entire experience is greatly compromised by the extremely uneven quality of service, where individuals, with their unprofessional attitude, cast a bad light on the entire team. Problems with small portions in some dishes and, above all, an alarming lack of care for guests with allergies are additional factors that a potential visitor must take into account. If you are just looking for good pizza and are willing to take a risk with the service, this may be the right choice. Everyone else, especially those with special dietary needs, should think carefully before visiting.
